A sea urchin shell from the Philippines provided the inspiration this sculptural chair. On this shell the uneven and irregular ordering of the attachment points of the urchin�s spines combine to form a strong pattern.

I sought to emulate this patterning on the chair using a combination of turned and carved elements in combination with surface burning and punching, allowing the patterns to grow from irregular but constrained markings.
